I didn't take the time to go through and read all these, so I know it's my own fault if someone is offended I didn't take the time to read their post for this reason [if it's on here], but I have a couple questions about some item rates and such. So on with it..

Question 1: Which run would yield more Magmas Shield drops and which mode should I run in?
A. Defend Droknar's Forge quest in Tasca's Demise
B. Hell's Precipice
- Also, HM or NM? I know obviously HM gives a higher rate for golds, but does the rate of Magmas Shield drops change due to the additional tomes added and by how much does it actually take away from the chance of a shield? (I was curious about this earlier when I got 3 Magmas in 2 runs in Tasca's HM, however 2/3 were still purple so I don't know if I should just run NM anyways or not. Thanks for any advice here).

Question 2. Icedome, Spearhead Peak, Tasca's for Summit-Skinned Shields?
- I know that the quest Defend Droks would change the spawns so I would opt to use a different character but still want to know the same thing as before whether I should really run HM or NM and take the chance on more purples for the chance of higher drop rate of shields or not.

Question 3. Does the foe affect the mod ever-so-slightly? (i.e. higher chance for +10vs Dwarves from Dwarves)?
- I assume this is a no, however I seem to get more Shields with vs Dragons, Cold, Plants when I run for Kurzick shields in Pongmei or something. I was trying to keep note on rates but it is just a whole lot to configure and I wanted to know if anyone else had this theory before too? That maybe, just maybe, the rate goes up a tiny bit? Thanks for any advice on any of these questions).

I'd go with tascas HM.
I did chestruns in hells earlier too but for me tascas gave me more magmas I think. Also if you're hunting for skins you should always pick HM imo... because like you said NM will increase your purple drops, and even if u get your skin, in purple it will be mostly useless...
Plus in HM you will get elite tomes and more useless golds u can sell unid to get back your cash for running...

100% Ice Dome!
Enter area, open 3 chests, die, rezone, use clover... repeat...
By far the fastest run for summit stuff and also a really good drop rate imo.

Only bad thing about it is that the run is pretty hard for beginners if you're going for HM... You could train a bit in NM tho.

/E: I'd also advice you to use a cupcake for each run - increases your costs for chestrunning ofc but it makes the runs so much easier!

I doubt theres any prove for it but I have the same feeling as you. Meaning I also think that the foes surrounding the chest will affect the Mod on your shields.... for example when running in FoW i seem to get 75% more vs undead shields ;-)
Also when I was farming charr I got like 10vs skeleton shields in ~1month, and I dont remember gettin another vs skele shield in over a year at any other farming spot...

so if you're after dwarf shields - go kill dwarves

Best whises and happy hunting!

Awesome thanks! & I'm glad you had this theory also btw. I had been noticing this for a while it seems to increase rate but I hadn't ever read anything on it or heard anyone else mention it so this gives me a real confidence booster that I'm noticing something possibly important that maybe not many other people thought about. I like tasca's as well for its quickness compared to hell's. i can do a run in half the time even if hell's seems to have a near guarantee of 3 chests/ run and tasca's varies. as far as running HM icedome, those rangers can be a pain. what would you suggest running on since blocking doesnt seem to help alot? I run normally with dervish and utilize the pve skills but idk if there is a better method like a sin with prot spirit / sb and balth spirit for management or something? seems a little extreme but i want to be efficient as well and not struggle gettin those chests. Thanks for any more advice.

Also, I've been testing farms with my guild (Oldschool Players [OS]). There were quite a few white shield drops from Icedome VQ with a sin tank, monk bonder, and derv spiker, however the rate of golds was atrocious. we did this a couple times and it seems as though runes are the only things that drop and the occasional core item. is there a place to farm dwarves solo without use of heroes like a whirling ranger or anything that is fairly easy to survive? i've tried to solo farm with different characters in a couple different areas but those rangers pose a threat still. any knowledge of a way to bypass those precision shots would help. thanks!

I have to say that tho, in cantha you only can get vs plants, dragons and demons mods. so thats reason youre only getting those

I run tascas personally, for both magma+summit

ok so i got a question about the chests in sorrows furnace. can they contain summit weapons? or has there been a point in time when they COULD but have been nerfed from miners chests?
i think by now i opened a lot more miners chests than shiverpeak chests yet all i ever get from miners chests are mostly armors and sometimes lame common skins (in normal mode). NEVER have i gotten a summit weapon from those, whereas i did get some from shiverpeak chests. it doesnt really make sense to me since the keys for miners cost more than shiverpeak but the drops are just shit.

You can get vs plants in prophs too . But i mean the drops just seem to be a higher chance for mods for the chest / foes surrounding it. or so i personally believe. obviously all mods still possible but i feel i get more mods closer to their use in that area. i.e. plants/cold/dragons in an environment where that's useful. Ar vs summit from those areas, etc.

Like in Tasca's i got a +8vs summit purple magmas. i feel the mod on the magmas was a result as higher rate from the environment, even though there is always a chance for the mod.

so i decided to go do some shadow passage running on derv and i've found that on the way back towards Dragon's Throat the chest is closer to the Byway entrance. this being said, a really nice run I've started doing is with shadow of haste in the last part of the hallway from Byway before you get to that big square room, grab the chest that is often just across the room before the plagueborn spawns (sometimes it spawns on plagueborns in which case only cancel shadow of haste once ur in the larger hallway on ur way back to big room). stance out and rezone. you can repeat this process often before your shroud runs out if you use it. this is the build i've been using:

Ogej4NfMLTbXHY3l0khOUQ4OIQA

good luck if you try it

Does anyone know of a low level area for chest running inscription items? Im mainly after shields. Ive checked a few zones but I cant seem to find a route with multiple chests.

Mainly after q6/14 or q7/15 drops.

Since the chest drop lvl depends on chests level, only good "chest lvl" for q6/14 o q7/15 would be lvl18 chests that are maguuma chests, But in nf and eotn all chests are either 50g istan or 450g kourna, there isnt chest run that could drop those reqs for inscriptionable items.

the Kournan 450g could drp q8/16 or maybe even q7/15 (not sure bout q7) But for lower only way is to farm it.

Eotn all chests are 600g+ afaik so q8s or lower cant drop there

I believe in Snowmen's Lair NM low reqs can drop since they are quite the low level, but I can't remember whether a lot of chests spawn there.

@Xander: like everywhere in eotn the chests are Locked Chests even in NM. so they won't drop q8 or less...

the snowmen indeed DO drop q5-8 stuff tho (lvl 15-17 I think in NM)

Vemin: Xaquang Skyway.
Pro's:
-Nice skins
-No worthless retarded armors (I think they're one of the few mobs that don't drop armors related to them, and trust me, you'll love that)
-Fast-ish runs
-Challenging, and after a bunch of runs, you'll have a master degree in "not getting bodyblocked by 50 billion motherf*cking vermin in a corridor as wide as an Ethiopian boy's upper arms. which brings me to con #1

Cons:
-Bodyblock, you'll be bodyblocked a LOT, seriously, there is no counting it, but you'll get the hang of it.
-Chest-time ratio isn't awesome, but you get some rewarding drops as compensation.

Silent Surf
Pro's:
-Very, very fast, and awesome chest-time ratio (5 chests, 3 minutes)
-Chance of very cool skins (Plagueborn, Outcast shit, Emblazoned Defenders etc)
-Literally a walk through the park, it's so easy that it's insulting at times.

Cons:
-Most drops are mediocre as f*ck (Jade Staffs, Plagueborn armors, which drop 90% of the time at plagueborn chests)
-Chances of getting the awesome drops, in my experience are rather slim

Morostav Trail:
Pro's:
-It's echovald, most badass shield skins drop here, so get lucky once and you'll get payed back your lockpicks thousand fold.
-it's fast-ish, but not Silent Surf style

Cons:
-It's still a hard-ish run, took me quite a couple runs to get the hang of it, and stopped doing it cause I don't like it.
-Armors drop here, a lot, and it sucks.

Melandru's Hope
Pro's:
-Silent Surf style, it's a walk in the park, since you can avoid about 90% of the groups, making it an easy Echovald run
-Again, badass drops, but again, armor related drops

Con's:
-Chest-time ratio kind of sucks balls, it's a long run and usually only yields 3-4 chests

Pongmei Valley
Pro's:
-Walk in the park, again, piss easy
-One of the best runs if you're after a nice variety of skins and weapons, some of the best and most expensive things drop here, but getting nice mods on them is just as likely as someone proving god actually exists.
-Chest-time ratio is pretty good (5 chests, 4-5 minutes)

Con's:
-Armors, like usual, but that's about it

Bukdek Byway
Pro's:
-So easy you can most likely write a bot to do it, and if I even knew how to, I probably would've done so myself by now, but since I'm a retard when it comes to computer stuff, I haven't.
-Fast chest time ratio: 1 chest (80-90% of the time) 40 seconds
-Cool skins (plagueborn)

Cons:
-F*cking armors, trust me, the chest drops 80-90% Plagueborn Armor, and it sucks ass, but if you like plagueborn stuff, this is the chest you need to open, although it'll take you ~5000 chests to get what you want
-It's so easy it's insulting, and gets boring pretty fast.

Raisu Palace
Pro's:
-Cool skins, but that's about it

Con's:
-Chest-time ratio is rather meh, and the difficulty is pretty insane. Ok, it's not insanely hard, but you'll ragequit pretty fast after a couple deaths (been there)

Boreas Seabed and Gyala Hatchery
Both piss easy runs, but honestly, if you're running those for drops, just run Silent Surf, 2 times as fast, and 3 times the chance for Outcast chests, which are the only real reason you should actually be doing that run.

Hell's Precipice
Pro's:
-Some of the cooler and rarer Proph skins, but most are meh-ish and loads of armors
-Chest-time ratio is ok-ish

Cons:
-Not really hard, but not a walk in the park like other runs, this one is vermin style challenging, just gotta get the hang of it and you'll be fine.

Also, if anyone advises you to do the Boreal Station chest run, tell them to go f*ck themselves. There are canthan chestruns that are equally, if not faster and anyone that is chestrunning anywhere but in Cantha should be sectioned for pure mental retardation. Hell's Precipice being the sole exception to this rule.
Found this awesome post back in 2011. Wanted to bump it for anyone who may be interested in new areas.

Regarding the Bright Star Shine quote above, I imagine getting armors is not as bad an outcome as it used to be. With seven hero teams and other reasons causing some rune/insignia prices to skyrocket, you should have a better chance of at least making back the cash from the keys/lockpicks. That would be useful for people who don't have a large amount of starting capital to burn, relying on the very infrequent high price items dropping to end up profiting.

I have been experimenting with various chestruns, and I found a pretty nice Elonian Chest run for both NM and HM. Dunes of Despair! The path is linear and enemies are in small groups, easy to run by. There are usually 2 chests in the area before the fort (can vary from 0 to 3), and the run takes 2-3 mins. Remember to make Ghostly Hero wait at the start.

The drops are core/prophecies weapons. I've got many ele and necro staffs so far. Losaru centaur chests can drop also armor, but Storm Kin/Scarab/Wurm chests do not.

See attachment for map.

Cool! I think best Elonian chest run is Elona Reach mission, has also 2-3chests and takes 2-3mins, same as that1 in the mission area

Better try that1 too tho!

Yeah, just talk to him once he opens the gate.

Opened about 80 chests in HM now (working on title). Mainly single-mod wands & foci and tomes so far. Best drops: q9 Accursed Staff 20/20, q9 Water Staff 20/10, q10 Air Staff 20/10.

Can't wait to switch to NM and get q8 foci for my ele!
